Safeguarding statement
How rTraining approaches safeguarding as a provider of training for people who work with children and adults at risk, and what to do if you have a concern.
Much of rTraining's catalogue is for people who work with children and with adults at risk: school staff, care staff and agency workers. This statement explains how we approach safeguarding as a provider of that training, what the platform does and does not do, and what to do if you have a concern.
What rTraining is, and is not
rTraining is an online training platform for adults at work. It is not a service that children use, and it is not a way to report a concern about a child or an adult. If you are worried that a child or an adult is at risk of harm, follow your setting's safeguarding procedure and speak to its designated safeguarding lead. If somebody is in immediate danger, call 999.
Our courses teach what the law and the statutory guidance say. They do not replace your employer's own safeguarding policy, your designated safeguarding lead, or the guidance a course cites, which is always the version of record.
Children
Accounts are for adults at work, and you must be 18 or over to have one. We do not knowingly hold data about anybody under 18, and the platform does not ask for or check a date of birth. Course content often concerns children, as safeguarding training does, but that is course content rather than information about any real child.
Keeping real people out of the platform
The training is about situations, not about particular people. Please do not type a child's name, or anything about a real person's circumstances or health, into Ask, the section tutor, a support message or any field. The platform does not need it, and Ask keeps what you type for 90 days. If you need to talk to us about something that involves a real person, email us and leave out anything that would identify them.
If something you write worries us
Ask and the section tutor are automated. They are not monitored in real time, and they are not a reporting route.
- A message that reads as an emergency happening now gets a fixed reply telling you to call 999 and follow your setting's emergency procedure.
- Where a course does not cover a question, the tutor suggests your manager, your setting's policy or its lead for the topic.
- Our staff can read tutor conversations to check the tutor is answering safely. If a member of our staff reads something that suggests somebody is at risk of serious harm, they will pass it straight away to our designated safeguarding lead.
- If we become aware that a child or an adult at risk is being harmed or is at risk of harm, we refer it to the local authority's safeguarding team, and to the police where somebody is in immediate danger. We share only what is needed, as data protection law allows. Our privacy notice explains when we share personal data.
Course content
Safeguarding content is some of the most important we publish, because a wrong instruction can hurt somebody.
- A course version that carries an accreditation, or is applying for one, is written by a named author and checked by a separate, independent expert reviewer before it can be published. The database enforces this. A course with no accreditation may be credited to the rTriibe team instead, and its course page says so.
- Where a course states a legal duty or a procedure, it comes from the primary guidance it cites, such as the Department for Education's statutory guidance, and each section records its sources.
- Each course states how often it should be refreshed, and why.
- When the guidance a course is based on changes, we republish the course. A certificate records the version that was taken, so an employer can see whether somebody trained against the current guidance.
- If you find something in a course that is wrong or out of date, tell us under the complaints and appeals procedure. We treat safeguarding content errors as urgent.
Our own people
- Safeguarding lead at rTriibe: rTriibe has a designated safeguarding lead. To reach them, email training@rtriibe.com with "safeguarding" in the subject line.
- Checks on the people who write and review our courses: our authors, reviewers and staff do not work with learners and have no unsupervised contact with anybody through the platform, so criminal record checks are not required for their roles.
- Our staff's own safeguarding training: our staff complete safeguarding awareness training when they join, and refresh it every three years.
Our staff do not have contact with children through rTraining.
Employers
If you enrol your staff, you remain responsible for their safeguarding training meeting your own duties, for deciding which course meets which duty for which role, and for your own safeguarding procedures. The platform shows you who has passed and who is due or overdue; following it up is yours. See the terms for organisations.
Contact
For a concern about the platform or a course, email training@rtriibe.com, with "safeguarding" in the subject line if the concern is about safeguarding. This address is not monitored around the clock and is not the place to report a child or an adult at risk.
